Biography
Prof. Chao-Nan (Miles) Qian currently holds the position of Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center in addition with his professorship appointments in the Department of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma and the State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China. He is a senior associate editor of the Chinese Journal of Cancer (CJC).

Prof. Qian obtained his M.D. in 1992 and his Ph.D. in Oncology in 1999 from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences (Guangzhou). He later pursued his career in cancer research in MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC in Texas, USA), Van Andel Research Institute (VARI in Michigan, USA), and National Cancer Center Singapore (NCCS in Singapore) between 2000-2006, starting from a postdoctoral fellow to a senior research scientist. In 2007, he became Deputy Director of the joint laboratory, NCCS-VARI Laboratory of Translational Cancer Research, National Cancer Center Singapore. His major research interests are molecular mechanisms of tumor metastasis, cellular and molecular mechanism of tumor angiogenesis, and molecular mechanisms of drug resistance in cancer cells. He published over 150 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. In addition with his main academic appointments, Prof. Qian is a grant reviewer for 5 international institutions, and an ad hoc journal reviewer for 43 scientific journals.
